Tax-Aide volunteers
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is Looking for Volunteers
We are looking for compassionate and friendly individuals to join our volunteer team of local Californians for the upcoming tax season. We'll provide the training and support to help you learn new skills, and you'll get a great feeling from helping those in need. Each year over 35,000 Tax-Aide volunteers serve over 2 million people nationally. Last tax season, volunteers filed returns for approximately 22,000 people at 64 sites in San Joaquin, Sacramento, Yolo, Calaveras, Amador, El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, Sutter, Butte, Tehama and Shasta Counties. Tax Counselors work with taxpayers directly by filing tax returns. Client Facilitators welcome taxpayers, help organize paperwork, and manage the overall flow of service. Technology Coordinators manage computer equipment, ensure taxpayer data is secure, and provide technical assistance to volunteers. We have a big demand for bilingual speakers in all roles, specially dedicated interpreters who can assist other volunteers. All new volunteers must attend an Orientation. You will have the opportunity to discuss which volunteer position is best for you. Those interested in the Tax Counselor position will receive the IRS Training Kit and must attend additional training sessions. Also, as volunteers, you'll be able to help your neighbors find out if they are eligible for the California Earned Income Tax Credit. Tax-Aide volunteers are trained to find all allowable deductions including the Cal EITC, a tax credit for California's working families and individuals. Computer skills are recommended. Training is provided by experienced Tax-Aide volunteers.
The program operates from February 1 through April 15 with a minimum service commitment of 1-2 days per week. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage. Students may earn college credit. With your help, we hope to assist many more taxpayers and open more sites in additional counties in Northern California.
