POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Digital Scholarship Partner is responsible for managing a balanced portfolio of four key activities in support of the programs of the Digital Scholarship Team: (1) programming, and coding support and research collaboration; (2) data analysis and research collaboration; (3) exploration of emerging digital scholarship tools, technologies, techniques, and applications; (4) digital scholarship instruction and partner engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides expertise in digital scholarship and applies best practices; applies advanced techniques and technologies, and good judgment in the field; collaborates with internal and external stakeholders. Possess a significant level of expertise within library science; contributions are recognized at the library and University; maintains knowledge about library emerging issues and trends and the role of the library; understands and articulates organizational positioning and strategic alignment. (25%)
- Consult and partner with faculty, staff, and student researchers to: provide guidance in programming and coding for data mining, organizing and transforming data into structures and advise on research data quality. Communicate with partners to understand and advise on integrating data content into digital project development and management (including tools and software). Meet regularly with researchers to learn about their research goals, needs, and interests, and determine how best to build digital scholarship partnerships across campus. (10%)
- Consult faculty, staff, and student researchers on data mining, organization, and statistical analysis. Consult with partners on their exploration of quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Demonstrate an interest in learning as field adapts. (10%)
- Engage in research and development to expand use of digital scholarship tools and techniques, including advanced data and text analysis, such as machine learning, statistical, and exploratory data analysis techniques. Regularly engage in discussions with faculty, staff, and students about emerging digital scholarship resources and technologies. Demonstrate experience with common programming languages, for example Python or R. (10%)
- Provide high-quality instruction on digital scholarship tools, programming languages, and data analysis to facilitate teaching, learning, and research across the University. Educate and engage with faculty, staff, and students to provide coding consulting services and to forge new collaborations and relationships that extend the Libraries’ role as central to the university’s digital scholarship needs. (10%)
- Design and maintain web-based informational sites; develop a collection of electronic and print resources within the area of digital scholarship. (7%)
- Contributes to the library, the institution, and the profession through sustained and progressive scholarship, creative expression, and service at the state, regional, or national.(8%)
- Contributes to and maintains a work culture of inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging (6%)
- Work closely with other team members to foster collaborative initiatives. (13%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

CONTACTS
Department: Regular contact with the Digital Scholarship team leader to ensure excellent service. Moderate contact with staff on all levels of the organization to support the provision of library digital scholarship services. Occasional contact with managers and staff of other units in the library as required for specific projects.
University: Consult and partner frequently with faculty, faculty committees, researchers, staff, and other department administrators to determine their teaching and research needs and to engage with those individuals and groups to enable effective decisions. Work regularly with faculty and staff and campus librarians to develop, review, and improve academic digital scholarship information management policies and procedures. Consult with staff throughout the university to develop and implement programs for the delivery of services to students and faculty.
External: Participate in local, regional and national organizations to maintain a network of informational professionals to enhance library services and to stay abreast of trends and changes in the profession. Infrequent to occasional collaboration with colleagues in OhioLINK and other academic libraries.
Students: Frequent daily communication with students to provide assistance and information resources to support their education and research needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may supervise non-exempt staff, student employees, and temporary full or part-time workers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensing: Master's degree in Library Science or relevant area and 1 -3 years of experience. Experience: The initial rank of the Digital Scholarship Partner will be based upon the qualifications of the individual with regard to that person's professional knowledge, abilities and skills; contributions to the profession through service and scholarly endeavors; and, professional qualities consistent with university and library values.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to make decisions in are of expertise; can collaborate and partner effectively; moderately expert in digital scholarship and able to apply best practices; can use advanced techniques and technology to innovate; ability to perform or administer slightly complex or specialized duties; communicate effectively.
- Evidence of professional contribution publishing, creative contributions, presentations and/or professional service at the state, regional, or national level); keeps abreast of the role and application of trends for libraries in higher education.
- Ability to plan and innovate to accomplish library goals.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the protocols and strategies required to ensure the effectiveness of the library’s digital programs.
- Ability to manage stress while performing multiple concurrent tasks and interruptions.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a strong advocate to accomplish the mission of the library.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders and affiliates.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills to initiate, facilitate, and complete projects with efficiency and effectiveness.
