Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by advancing innovative research and improving quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis.

Today, we seek a bookkeeper whose primary responsibility will be basic accounting, cash management, general ledger, audit and budget work. 

Additionally, the individual will be responsible for performing job duties, interacting with the community and coworkers and managing themselves in a manner consistent with and in support of the organization’s mission and core values.

Job Responsibilities:

Functions

·       Cash Management: Monitor bank accounts via website, update weekly cash report, enter cash receipts in accounting system, prepare and update cash forecast, transmit positive pay to bank and perform weekly depositing of direct mail and non-direct mail.

·       Accounting/GL: Bank reconciliations, American Express recording, monthly revenue report reconciliation with development, scan supporting documentation (Accounts Payable) and upload and attach to original source documents.

·       Audit: Assist in the preparation of year end files and documents.

·       Budget: Provide support to departments for preparing budgets, review departmental budgets and combine to create Foundation budget, attend departmental meetings, and upload budget to accounting system.

·       Miscellaneous: 5500 Census preparation and assist in Tax Return (990) information preparation.

·       Paralysis Resource Center (PRC): Act as back-up to Controller in the preparation and execution of drawdowns, preparation and submission of quarterly cash reports, participate in the contract administration, work with the Director of PRC Operations in tracking the annual spend of federal grant dollars during the annual spend down and provide recommendations, validate expenses against government guidelines and budgetary constraints.  Participate in the annual audit of the PRC, track and report to the Director of PRC Operations the necessary information that are written into open agreements, work with the Director of PRC Operations in adhering to changes in grant policies and compliance expectations on behalf of the PRC, provide ongoing financial monitoring, budgeting analysis and prepare accounting reports for the Director of PRC Operations, and assess business practices of the PRC for productivity and efficiency and provide statistical analysis as needed.

Data

·       Consistently monitor financial data and present reports in an accurate and timely manner

 People

·       Field questions from staff, managers, leadership and outside partners as needed

·       Collaborate with the CFO, Controller and Director of Operations- Paralysis Resource Center (PRC)

 Lead

·       Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare actual results with a view to identify, explain and correct variances as appropriate

·       Assist with organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the leadership team, continuously collaborate with departmental leads to assess financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations

Qualifications:

·       Associates degree in Accounting required

·       1-3 years’ experience required

·       Non-profit experience preferred

·       Intermediate level written and verbal communication skills required. 

·       Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required

·       Knowledge of MIP/SAGE non-profit accounting software preferred

Physical Demands / Office Environment:

This position is primarily a sedentary role. However, the person in this position may need to occasionally move about inside the office to liaise with internal staff, access files, office machinery and a copy machine/printer.   Additionally, they role may involve frequent lifting of objects weighing less than 10lbs. 

 

Travel:

Infrequent travel in the local metro and regional area may be required
