The City of Yuba City is now accepting applications for Water Distribution Operator I/II. The ideal candidate must have a positive attitude, exceptional problem solving skills and be dedicated to a safe working environment. City employees are expected to work cooperatively and provide excellent customer service. Employees within this job classification perform heavy physical labor including lifting of objects above 50 pounds with assistance.
Under general supervision, Water Distribution Operators perform a variety of tasks in the repair, maintenance and construction of public works infrastructure and facilities, and performs other related work as required. Incumbents will be expected to work a variety of schedules including nights, weekends, and stand-by. Personnel on stand-by must remain physically able to respond within forty-five (45) minutes to the incident and refrain from the use of alcohol, medications, or substances that may interfere with their ability to effectively respond to any call for service. Furthermore, Water Distribution Operators are expected to have general knowledge of Storm Drainage, Sewer Collection, and Streets Maintenance. Water Distribution Operators do not have supervisory responsibilities.
Water Distribution Operator I:
This is the entrance level for the Water Distribution Operator series. Incumbents work initially under immediate supervision and receive detailed instructions and training on assignments. Incumbents generally work within an established framework of set procedures in performing assigned tasks. Through on the job training a Water Distribution Operator I is expected to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to advance to journey level performance. Work is reviewed frequently and assessed for results achieved.
Water Distribution Operator II:
This is the journey level for the Water Distribution Operator series. Incumbents work within an established framework of set procedures in performing assigned tasks and are expected to perform a variety of journey level maintenance, repair, and construction tasks with general supervision and minimum instruction. Work is normally reviewed only on completion and for overall results. - Minimum Qualifications

Water Distribution Operator I:
Education:
Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to read and write at a level required for successful job performance.
Experience:
Six (6) months of recent work experience in a similar field.
Licenses and/or Certificates Required:
At time of hire, must possess a valid California driver's license and obtain Class B license with Airbrake endorsement within six (6) moths. In addition to above, requires possession of a D-2 Water Distribution Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board within twenty-for (24) months of appointment.
Water Distribution Operator II:
Education:
Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to read and write at a level required for successful job performance.
Experience:
Two (2) years of recent work experience in a similar field or one (1) year of experience at a level equivalent to a Water Distribution Operator I with the City of Yuba City.
Licenses and/or Certificates Required:
At time of hire or promotion from Water Distribution Operator I, must possess a valid California Class A driver's license with Airbrake endorsement and a D-2 Water Distribution Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Successful completion of specialized training in Work Zone Traffic Safety is required. In addition to above, requires possession of a D-3 Water Distribution Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board and a Backflow Prevention Tester certificate within twenty-four (24) months of appointment. - Important Information
