The Calaveras County Office of the Sheriff is seeking a Correctional Sergeant to join the team in the County Jail Facility. Under general supervision, to provide lead work coordination for other Correctional Officers during an assigned shift; to supervise inmates at the County Jail, according to laws, regulations, and policies of the State of California and Calaveras County; to enforce Jail rules and maintain Jail security; to be responsible for the care, custody, and confinement of inmates; to oversee work details and leisure activities; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is the advanced working and lead supervision level in the Correctional Officer series. Incumbents are expected to coordinate the activities of other Correctional Officers and perform the full scope of corrections work. The incumbent will have responsible charge of the Facility in the absence of the Corrections Lieutenant.
Knowledge of:
Laws, rules and regulations pertaining to jail operations, jail security measures and the custody and feeding-of prisoners, including book procedures; court procedures; principles and techniques of supervision and training.
Ability to:
Plan and supervise the operation and maintenance of a county jail; supervise and train staff assigned to jail; plan and supervise inmate feeding program; prepare reports and maintain records; interpret jail regulations to the general public; maintain effective discipline among prisoners; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Education, Training and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year experience as a Correctional Corporal or related Law Enforcement experience.
