IT NETWORK ENGINEER III

Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure network systems meet University and end user requirements, with an emphasis on network stability and security. Provides technology roadmaps governed by strategic direction, business requirements as well as resourcing and financial constraints. Liaises with enterprise, server, and applications architects to ensure alignment across technology portfolios.

  1. Maintains a thorough understanding of Network Engineering (IP Routing, Ethernet Switching, VPN, etc.).
    2. Configures and setup Firewalls/Security appliances for access to vital business applications.
    3. Designs, configures complex switching environments.
    4. Designs, configures complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.

    4. Designs, configures complex wireless networking that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.
    5. Creates and maintains technical documentation for use by the network operations and support teams.
    6. Manages assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
    7. Responds to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors to provide technical assistance and support.
    8. Troubleshoots malfunctions of network hardware and software applications and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.
    9. Troubleshoots Network performance problems through the use of network analyzers and packet capturing technologies.
    10. Administration and documentation support for in-house network monitoring solutions.
    11. Researches and develops new architectures and develops proof of concept evaluations.
    12. Serves as project manager for IT Infrastructure-related initiatives when required.
    13. Performs disaster Recovery simulation exercise pre-planning and on-site support as needed.
    14. Acts as operational and backup recovery support.
    15. Special Requirement: Available on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    16. Completes special projects as assigned.
    17. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
