The San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors Water Authority (Authority) is seeking a knowledgeable, self-starting and enthusiastic individual to serve as its Administrative Assistant I.
The San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors Water Authority is a Joint Powers Authority comprised of four agricultural water agencies that was formed in 1992, serving approximately 240,000 acres of farmland in Western Fresno, Madera, Merced and Stanislaus counties. The Authority’s members hold senior water rights to San Joaquin River water and have a unique contract with the United States Department of Interior through Bureau of Reclamation for delivery of their water. The Authority’s office is in Los Banos, CA.

A summary of the job includes:
- Compose and review a variety of documents, including agendas, minutes, notices, news releases, resolutions, reports, job descriptions, and other documents
- General office procedures, including preparation of correspondence, memoranda, or other materials
- Manage payroll, accounts payables, and accounts receivables including billing
- Assist with the coordination and preparation of the newsletters within a time sensitive schedule
- Coordinate website updates
- Oversee Authority’s filing system
- Organize and route Executive Director and Authority staff incoming/outgoing mail; follow-up on matters requiring action
- Assist Director of Finance and Administration in coordinating air, hotel, and travel arrangements for Authority staff and Executive Director, including registering for conferences, tours and/or other Authority events
- Maintain Executive Director’s schedule
- Assist Director of Finance and Administration in developing and coordinating various special events, such as out of area conferences, tours, dinners, public meetings, etc.
- Assist Director of Finance and Administration in the preparation of various accounting and financial reports; prepare quarterly invoices for member agencies; prepare water transfer invoices; and prepare annual audit materials for accountant
Salary range: $75,000/yr. minimum, depending on experience.
Neither the Authority nor the employees participate in Social Security tax though each is subject to the 1.45% Medicare tax. Instead, the Authority participates in a 401(a) retirement plan in which it contributes 6.55% based on gross, pretax wages on behalf of the employee and it contributes an additional 10% based on gross, pretax wages into the plan. Also, the employees are provided a 457(k) plan in which they can contribute up to the legal maximum per year. The 401(a) retirement plan has a five-year vesting schedule.
The Authority offers paid vacation and sick leave benefits, it observes eight paid holidays and provides medical, dental and vision plans of which 100% of the employee’s costs are paid by the Authority, and 60% of the employee’s dependents costs are paid by the Authority.
