POSITION: Technology Support Specialist I
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision of the Directors of Technology, provide County Office, District and School personnel with superior customer service, including the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of computing systems including hardware, software and peripherals; assist with the County Office’s maintenance of specific technology projects and assignments.
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
Advanced knowledge of methods and procedures of operating computers and AV equipment.
Coordinate hardware maintenance and repair activities and perform routine desktop maintenance; install desktop software and upgrades; troubleshoot desktop applications and install assorted peripherals.
Assist with the installation of network cabling, equipment and wireless access points.
Provide technical assistance to teachers, staff, and students on using computers, tablets, printers, and software programs.
Prioritize and schedule requests for technical support services; estimate materials, equipment, and time requirements for daily computer support activities; ensure user needs are met and technical support issues are resolved in a timely manner.
Assist with the maintenance of cloud based services including the TCSOS website, content management system, digital signage, mobile device management, and Google Apps for Education.
Research trends, products, equipment, etc. for the purpose of recommending new equipment and/or procedures.
Maintain a variety of records related to installation configurations, inventory, cabling, equipment maintenance and repair history, time worked, and technology service requests.
Travels to work sites, for the purpose of supporting schools.
Travels to conferences receiving training for new technology.
Demonstrate self-motivation and work well in a high-paced environment.
Maintain good working relations with all levels of personnel.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Manage IMC staff in the absence of Department Directors or as designated.
Assist with IMC staff performance evaluations.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERTISE
Knowledge of:
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot Windows 7, macOS, iOS, and Chrome operating systems.
Knowledge of or ability to learn software utilized by TCSOS, Districts and Schools.
Basic Local and Wide Area networking functions, concepts and troubleshooting.
Basic operating functions of the Internet and e-mail.
Working knowledge of software application suites including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Apple iWork, Adobe Acrobat Pro, FileMaker and Google Apps.
DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Technology or similar field, or equivalent work experience.
VOIP or Telecommunication experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of high school or General Education Diploma (GED). AA Degree from an accredited educational institution or computer training institute in computer technology or equivalent work experience preferred.
Valid California driver’s license.
TIME PERIOD: Management position – 225 day work year, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week

The work environment and physical demands of the position as described below is representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of a position in this Technology classification. These physical standards are generic in nature and tasks may vary dependent on school site or
specialized department assignment.
Work Environment
In this position the employee works both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, electrical power supply and high voltage. This position also requires working in cramped or restrictive work areas; working on ladders or at heights, and occasional exposure to cleaning fluids. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Driving a vehicle to conduct work is also required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this position include the ability to frequently lift, carry, pull or otherwise move moderately heavy objects of up to 50 pounds without assistance. The employee must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various equipment and handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee will frequently stand or sit for an extended period of time. The employee must have the ability to bend at the waist, kneel, and squat, reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. The employee will perform frequent pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, and occasionally climbing ladders. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk on various surfaces; reach with hands and arms; and use hearing and speaking to exchange information in person, on the telephone or via email. The employee will need vision abilities to diagnose and handle technology requests and read a variety of materials. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to handle the physical requirements of installing computer equipment in difficult to reach locations.
