ASSISTANT ELECTRICAL ENGINEER – ($8,253.00 - $10,533.00 per month)
Under general direction, perform complex professional communications engineering work in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of District communications systems including telephone, VHF and UHF radio, fiber optic, microwave, TDM circuits, IP and MPLS networks and network equipment, and associated sub-systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare plans and specifications, support contract administration and manage contracts for the development, modification and maintenance of communications systems and support services. Assist in the establishment of schedules and methods for the testing and installation of communications engineering projects. Prepare acquisition and/or installation cost estimates. Evaluate and specify maintenance intervals and procedures. Prepare preliminary construction cost estimates for management and project review. Review contract and vendor submittals for conformance to drawings and specifications, prepare design revisions and change orders. Conduct on-site inspections of electronics and communications installations.
Work across all departments and administrations. Be available as needed for emergency restorations of communication systems. Work with various agencies, contractors, vendors, and staff to support these systems. Keep abreast of telecom and utility industry developments and evaluate, recommend, and plan for implementation of new systems and equipment.
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on Electrical or Electronic Engineering. Sr. Engineer requires 5 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience. Assoc. Engineer requires 3 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience. CA Driver’s License required for all levels. Senior/Associate Engineer requires possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
