ROLE of the POSITION
The Marketing and Communications Specialist for Career Services will create and manage key communication, branding and promotional activities to engage all stakeholders - diverse students, alumni, recruiting employers and campus partners. A primary objective of this position is to develop and execute a comprehensive plan to engage employers and boost student/alumni participation in campus wide and targeted hiring events and related program activities resulting in successful career employment outcomes.
The specialist will lead, create, and implement marketing, social media, communication, and outreach strategies for all career services audiences. These efforts will attract and serve key employing organizations as well as boost student and alumni participation. The specialist plays a key role in enhancing employer utilization of job and internship postings and career management systems.
The Career Services Website and social media activity drives student and alumni engagement along with the Handshake career management platform, and UNLV Career Launch (curated website). The Marketing and Communications Specialist creates and maintains engaging content for stakeholders using these platforms along with social media channels to include Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook or other identified channels.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Employer Engagement and assists with planning and delivery of 2-3 major campus-wide career fair events each year in collaboration with the division’s events team. The Career Services office hosts 150- 200+ employers each semester for major career fair events attracting up to 1,500 students and alumni and more segmented virtual events exceeding 100 employers and 1000+ student/alumni connections and close to 400 unique students/alumni.
In addition, this position assists with coordinating and deploying marketing efforts for recruiting services and activities such as campus interviewing, company information/networking sessions, and related activities.
The Specialist will assist the Assistant Director of Employer Engagement to maintain and promote career mentoring platforms, additional employer engagement activities, professional development events, the UNLV Career Launch curated career communities website along with communications for other high visibility institutional career readiness initiatives.
Marketing & Communications
- Aligned with Career Services leadership and the division’s communications team, develop, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive marketing and outreach plan for Career Services.
- Develop and maintain UNLV community and stakeholder awareness of Career Services brand, programs and services: career fairs, employer networking events, career & professional development programs, employer and student/alumni services.
- Create and maintain a communication plan for consistent messaging using timely and relevant communication methods that may include but are not limited to emails, newsletters, videos, digital messages, and print collateral.
- Develop communication strategies that are culturally sensitive, inclusive and responsive to diverse stakeholders (MSI, HSI, AANAPISI).
- Implement comprehensive social media strategies that effectively maximize reach to target UNLV populations- students, alumni, faculty, staff, academic programs and underserved identities.
- Develop compelling content using graphic design tools for digital and print collateral incorporating consistent brand awareness strategies. Identify new communication tools and strategies to effectively reach UNLV audiences.
- Write compelling content for Web, PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, blog articles, email messages, social media content and other key channels of communication to stakeholders that are audience specific.
- Develop, maintain, market and collaborate on UNLV Career Launch curated career communities Website.
- Manage marketing, communication and strategic outreach for all Career Services events to reach all audiences including employers, students and alumni, faculty and staff.
- Serve as liaison to campus Web Services team, division’s communications team, UNLV Communicators Council and campus career center communications team.
Employer Events and Services
- Collaborate on main Career Services events to plan, coordinate, promote and execute signature campus-wide career events connecting students/alumni with hiring employers.
- Assist with promotion of employer sponsorships as well as stewardship of employer partners to accommodate deliverables.
- Serve employers engaging in virtual and in person services with excellent customer service.
- Assist the Assistant Director Employer Engagement to approve employer Handshake accounts, and maintain recruiter contacts in UNLV Handshake career management system.
- Collaborate with the employer engagement team to coordinate delivery of essential employer services; employer networking events, information sessions and on campus interviews (scheduling and visit coordination).
- Support Assistant Director of Employer Engagement with administration of the central Career Services mentoring platform – Rebels Forward as well as routine outreach to employers for services, hiring outcome information and recruiting engagement opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of one to three years experience in one or more of these areas - marketing, communications, social media and graphics, events promotion, project management and customer service.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors and at least three years of experience in a higher education setting with one or multiple areas related to advanced strategic marketing, communication and social media and graphic arts skills (InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.,), career events management, database management systems – i.e., Handshake, CRMs, familiar with employer relations or college recruiting.
SALARY RANGE
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Salary range - $45K - $52K DOE. Position is contingent upon funding.
