JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Mgr. Maintenance, Operations, Transportation
SALARY RANGE: Classified Management RESPONSIBLE TO: Superintendent/Designee
WORK YEAR: 12 Months
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, supervise maintenance and operations personnel and needs at all District sites. Recommend policy and procedures related to maintenance and operations practices.
TYPICAL DUTIES
1. Plan, schedule and carry out District maintenance and operations projects.
2. Conduct, or recommend, solutions to maintenance and custodial needs, including appropriate equipment, supplies and
materials.
3. Conduct regular preventative maintenance including but not limited to: heating and air conditioning systems, roofing,
paving, painting, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Ability to read schematics and blueprints. Ability to estimate
project costs.
4. Supervise custodial staff in technical areas to establish the most efficient custodial plan for District facilities. Coordinate
all custodial, maintenance, and grounds work orders.
5. Provide assistance to site administrators in developing custodial schedules and other operations areas. Also evaluate
custodial employees on performance and follow through with any discipline actions that may need to be taken.
Recommend transfers and reassignments.
6. Participate in diagnosis and repair of District trucks, buses and other equipment (diesel or gasoline powered).
7. Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies on regulations pertaining to vehicles, operations, and maintenance.
8. Assist in selection, supervision, and/or evaluation of maintenance, transportation and custodial personnel.
9. Complete and maintain appropriate records and reports.
10. Required to attend all VUSD Board Meetings, present detailed proposals, and plans for District related projects or
expenditures.
11. Manage the maintenance and operations budget in an effective manner.
12. Inspect for, and recommend means of alleviating, fire and safety hazards at all schools. Knowledge of clock, bell,
alarm systems.
13. Work with supportive agencies to resolve technical problems to assure District efficiency and safety.
14. Confer with district administration regarding maintenance and operations projects.
15. Follow through with cost estimates on repair work, contracting such repairs, and evaluation of repairs done.
16. Recommend policy, personnel and procedural changes.
17. Devise and conduct in-service training programs.
18. Serve as the Districts Designated Asbestos Person and Integrated Pest Manager.
19. Organize and administer all snow plowing in District facilities.
20. Required to be on call when off-duty, and function under time constraints.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, and equipment used in the building and maintenance trades including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting, glazing, electrical, locksmithing, including panic hardware, and grounds keeping.
Building / construction practices and laws governing the construction, maintenance and repair of school property. Knowledge of Districts policy and procedures, general budget practices, and the proper methods of storing equipment, hazardous materials, and supplies.
Allocation and scheduling of staff
Principals and practices of supervision and training
Oral and written communication skills
Operation of computer and assigned software
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
Ability to:

Must be able to prepare rough draft sketches and estimates of materials and labor
Plan, organize and manage the operations and activities of Maintenance and Custodial staff
Train, and supervise the performance of assigned personnel

Inspect facilities for maintenance and repair needs
Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance
Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Six (6) years experience in the maintenance of building and/or equipment; two (2) years of supervisory experience in the maintenance and/or operations fields.
